Piano Course

We cater to students of all ages. We recommend a more structured course leading to an examination as this will help students to develop their technique and musicianship in a more systematic way. We know there are pros and cons in doing an examination. Therefore, we have designed our lessons to be more flexible in learning other interesting repertoire apart from exam pieces. And for the more initiated, it is not necessary to take exams every year. In this way, we can work on students' weaknesses as well as allowing students to try out performing opportunities in Singapore.

GRADED PIANO COURSE

This course is based on the ABRSM graded examinations. Unlike other schools, we do not treat exam as a means to an end. Rather, the examinations are merely a form of assessment/attainment. It is the continuous learning process that we are focusing on. Students gain much more from acquiring new technique and style of playing, and as a result, they will gain greater confidence in performing. It is generally not recommended to take exams every year. However, for some students it may be necessary to do so in order to motivate them to work harder and to have a goal to aim for.

Lesson duration is 45minutes for Beginners to Grade 4. And 1 hour for Grade 5 to Grade 8. For very young beginners (5 - 6 years old) we have the Little Maestro Course (lasts 6months) at half an hour's lesson duration. We do not take students of 4 years and below.

DIPLOMA PIANO COURSE

This course is for students who have attained the necessary musicianship and technique at a post grade 8 level. Although it is standard for students to have obtained grade 8 before proceeding to the diploma course, it is not compulsary if the student has the passion for music. There are various examining boards offering diplomas from the United Kingdom. The 2 main boards are the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and the Trinity Guildhall. Both boards are recognised worldwide. There are 3 levels of diplomas: Associate, Licenciate and Fellowship. And there are the teaching as well as the performing diplomas.

In general, on average, it takes between one-and-a -half to two years to complete a diploma.

PIANO FOR LEISURE

This course is meant for students, mainly working adults who wish to learn for leisure. There is no exam for this course. There are two levels. LEVEL 1 is for students with no music background. They will be taught the basics before progressing to learning repertoire. LEVEL 2 is meant for students with some music background and they play more substantial pieces. Repertoire covered is of beginner to intermediate levels. Students attempting advanced, professional level repertoire will be treated as Diploma level for fee purposes.
